Risk stratification in neonatal jaundice (NNJ)
1⃣ Gestational age
(i) 35 weeks – 37 weeks 6 days:
– Medium risk if no risk factor
– High risk if presence of at least one risk factor
(ii) 38 weeks and above
– Low risk if no risk factor
– Medium risk if presence of at least one risk factor (presence of more than one risk factor does not increase the risk to high risk)
2⃣ Risk factors
– G6PD deficiency
– Neonatal sepsis
– Birth asphyxia
– Isoimmune haemolytic disease (examples: maternal blood group O positive but baby’s blood group mot yet known or different blood groups // mother Rhesus negative)
– Low birth weight (<2.5 kg)
